Help and feedback

Report a bug, send feedback or suggest an idea from any Cactive app, with screenshots you can mark up first.

Every Cactive app has a Help button in its header, beside the app's own buttons. It has:

  • Report a Bug, Send Feedback and Suggest an Idea, which open the report form.
  • Docs, these pages.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts, also on ?.

On a phone-sized screen the Help items are in your account menu. In the phone apps they're in the account sheet under Help, and in Cactive Browser in the Help menu of the menu bar.

Sending a report

Choose the kind (bug, feedback or suggestion), give it a short title and say what happened or what you'd like. Bugs also have a severity:

SeverityWhen
LowSomething looks wrong or is awkward.
MediumSomething doesn't work, but there's a way around it.
HighSomething important doesn't work.
CriticalData is lost or wrong, or nothing works.

Tick You can email me about this if we may write to you about it. Without it, your email address isn't kept with the report.

Screenshots and images

  • Capture This Page takes a screenshot of the page behind the form. In Cactive Browser it's the tab exactly as you see it; in other browsers the page is drawn again from its contents, and if that fails the browser asks which tab to share.
  • Add Image attaches pictures from your computer, and you can paste one from the clipboard.
  • Click an image to mark it up: Box to point at something, Draw, and Hide to blur anything private, such as names, numbers or messages. Hidden parts are removed from the image that's sent, not covered over.

Images are re-encoded before they're sent, which also removes a photo's location and camera details. A report takes up to five images of up to 8 MB each; the platform's limits list the current values.

On the phone, take a screenshot first, then add it from your photo library.

What's included

Before you send, What's included shows everything that goes with the report besides what you wrote:

  • the app and its version, and the page you're on (the address without anything after ? or #, and long codes such as share links replaced);
  • your account ID, and the organization you're in;
  • your browser, system, window size, language and time zone;
  • the page's most recent errors, failed requests (their address without the query, and the status) and the last few pages you visited in the app.

Reports never include passwords, sign-in tokens, cookies, what you've typed into forms, or the contents of your messages, mail or files. Anything that looks like a key, a token or an email address in an error message is taken out.

After you send

Platform administrators read every report, group ones that look alike, and turn the ones they act on into issues. A serious bug reaches them straight away.

To keep the inbox useful, each person can send a limited number of reports an hour and a day, and the same report twice in a row is refused.
